Longreach is an interesting Outback town located 1 178 km n-w of Brisbane. It sits on the Thomson River within one of the state’s richest beef and wool areas. White settlement began in 1860s and the town’s name refers to the ‘long reach’ of its river. Qantas established its operational base here in 1922. Easter in the Outback (Easter), Outback Muster & Drovers Reunion (May).
